Message from Pastor Richard Haden PDF Print E-mail

The last few days we have really experienced a change in the weather. Trees are turning different colors and losing their leaves. In many ways this is my favorite season. It is a time of transformation from the heat of summer to the cold of winter.

According to the Center for Christian Leadership:

The process by which God forms Christ’s character in believers is by the ministry of the Spirit, in the context of community, and in accordance with biblical standards. This process involves the transformation of the whole person in thoughts, behaviors, and styles of relating with God and others. It results in a life of service to others and witness for Christ.

But, the question is, “Do we really want to change?” Change entails risk and risk can be scary. Fear is a four letter word that has the potential to paralyze us. Perhaps what we already know is more comforting, even when it is counter productive, and we can hold on relentlessly.

And yet, change for the sake of change is not helpful either. What method of discernment could be used to discern where God wants to lead us? For my part I have committed to spend thirty minutes in prayer for the church. Perhaps a group of us could gather together on a regular basis to open ourselves to the leading of the Spirit.

 Grace and Peace
